Training Grants Awarded

The following grants have been awarded for the 2025 fieldwork season.

Jacinta Munyiva

Jacinta Munyiva will be joining Naturehub Collective's coastal conservation program in Mombasa for three months (May-July 2025). Her training activities will include:

  • Learning about seabird monitoring techniques
  • Participating in regular coastal surveys
  • Assisting with data collection for their Sooty Gull research project
  • Contributing to community education programs
  • Learning GPS mapping and basic data analysis

Natasha Murphy

Natasha Murphy

Natasha Murphy will join Copeland Bird Observatory. Her training activities and experiences will include:

  • Ringing and colour-ringing gull (Herring, Lesser Black-backed, Common) pulli.
  • Potential scope for also ringing Black Guillemot pulli.
  • Possibly night-time capture and ringing of Manx Shearwater and Storm Petrels.

Holly Puddy

Holly Puddy will join SCAN in North Wales and North England on their seabird ringing trips in summer. Her training activities will include:

  • Assisting members working on guillemot diets, guillemot tracking and other studies
  • Learning about deployment/collection, data downloading and sample collection/swabbing.
  • Assisting with their adult-catching trips to learn a greater range of capture and ringing techniques. By end of season she hopes to be able to apply for her restricted C ringing license for cliff seabirds.
  • Hopes to assist with and learn about canon netting
  • Assist with dye-marking programs and the resighting of dye-marked birds
